Rubber fronts – modern elegance and texture in interiors

Rubber decorative elements have recently gained enormous popularity – both in the world of interior design and in furniture. They are characterized by a surface with regular grooves that create a depth effect and add a three-dimensional, designer look to the furniture. Find out what grooved fronts are and what makes them stand out from classic furniture fronts.

What is grooved and where is it used?

Grooving is a process of making parallel cuts – most often vertically or horizontally – on the surface of a material. It can be used on wood, MDF, metal, plastic or even rubber. Although it was originally intended for technical purposes (e.g. to increase adhesion), this technique is now boldly entering the world of interior design.

Where are grooved elements most often found?

  • On the walls – decorative grooved panels are an effective way to diversify the wall in the living room, bedroom or hallway;

  • In doors – grooved interior doors are an interesting variation of classic, smooth surfaces;

  • On the floor – in the utility version, grooved panels increase anti-slip properties;

  • In furniture – fronts Grooved is currently one of the hottest trends in kitchen cabinetry and custom furniture.

How are grooved fronts made?

Grooved fronts are made using specialist milling machines that cut even grooves in the surface of MDF or solid wood. The surface is then sanded to make it smooth and ready for further finishing.

Polyurethane varnishes, acrylic paints or oils are used to protect and add color. The finished front gains a modern, elegant character and protection against moisture and mechanical damage.

Roughened fronts – advantages and limitations

Why are they worth considering?

  • Timeless aesthetics – grooved surfaces match both modern and classic arrangements;

  • Universal – they go great with simple forms, smooth countertops and handleless systems;

  • A wealth of colors – although they look best in natural shades of wood, beige, gray and white, they can be made in virtually any color;

  • Practicality – the grooved texture effectively masks fingerprints and minor scratches;

  • Easy kitchen makeover – by simply replacing the cabinet fronts with grooved ones, you can give the entire room a completely new character.

However, it is worth remembering a few disadvantages:
